The Merchant Of Venice :: Free Merchant of Venice Essays
What They Cannot See In this world, there are many aspects of blindness whether it is mentally or physically. Either way, each blindness brings out the disability in each person. Such portrayal was shown throughout the play The Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare presents more than one form of blindness, which complicates the social order of the society, and I feel that the blindness, being their imperfection, creates tension between characters, which is weakened by blindness. When the characters are being blind, they are corrupted by their actions and somehow they do not care who they are hurting as long as they know they are getting the best out of something. Whether it being valuables, love, power, or respect. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Physical and mental blindness are seen throughout this play. They play a part in each character's daily lives and are the obstacle that prevents happiness. Old Gobbo, who is Launcelot's blind and feeble father, expresses physical and mental blindness when he approaches Launcelot and surprisingly asks him, 'Master young man, you, I pray you, which is the way to Master Jew's?'; (Pg. 21, lines 29-30) for he was looking for his son, Launcelot. Surprisingly Old Gobbo did not know that he was speaking to his son. Old Gobbo is nearly blind, which is the physical part of the blindness, which was one of the reasons why he unable to recognize Launcelot's features. He is also mentally blind because a father should recognize his own son's voice. Launcelot briefly jokes with his father before confessing '[he is] Launcelot – [his] boy that was, [his] son that is, [his] child that shall be,'; (Pg. 22, lines 78-79) but Old Gobbo still 'cannot think [he is his] son'; (Pg. 22 , line 80). Launcelot convinces himself that 'if [his father] had [his] eyes, [he] might fail of knowing [him]'; because 'it is a wise father that knows his own child'; (Pg. 22, lines 70-71). It is a shame that a father cannot recognize his own flesh and blood. This blindness concerns the relationship of a father and their child. Another blindness that concerns the relationship between a father and the child would have been between Portia and her dead father. Portia, the heroine of The Merchant of Venice, is forced to marry the suitor who chooses the correct casket left by her deceased father. When the Prince of Morocco, one of Portia's suitors, comes to Belmont to woo Portia, he daringly takes the test of choosing the correct casket.

Dual Structure in Japan :: essays papers
Dual Structure in Japan What do you understand by the term ââ¬Å"dual structure of an economyâ⬠? How do you explain the dual structure of manufacturing industry in Japan? The word ââ¬Å"dualâ⬠has the meaning of double, twofold or in two parts according to The Australian Oxford Dictionary (1996). Applying the word to an economic context, I would describe the term ââ¬Å"dual structure of an economyâ⬠to indicate the co-existence of two different sectors alongside each other with disparities in technology and productivity between them. Take for instance, the existence of a traditional primary sector along with a modern non-primary sector constitutes to a ââ¬Å"dual structureâ⬠. Duality can exist within a particular sector of the economy. The existence of traditional subsistence agriculture alongside export agriculture among the Southeast Asian countries during colonial period is an example of duality within a sector. Minami (1994, p.239) defined ââ¬Å"dual structureâ⬠to mean the existence of two distinct sectors; one that has modern technology, a high capital-labour ratio, high labour productivity and wages, against another one, which has all the opposite characteristics. Therefore, one can infer that if large-scale industries with high capital intensity (K) were promoted at the stage in which labour supply (L) is relatively abundant then differentials in labour productivity (Y/L) and the wage rate would arise and lead to a dual structure. For Japan, three characteristics of the economy indicated the existence of a ââ¬Å"dual structureâ⬠. First, the coexistence of a very low unemployment rates and continued low incomes in agricultural and small business. Second, the existence of large (ââ¬Å"industrial giantsâ⬠) and small scale firms within the manufacturing sector. Third, the existence of peculiar characteristics of the labour market such as enterprise unions, wages differentials according to the size of the firm and long term employment (Odaka, 1967 p.50). Furthermore, duality existed in the manufacturing sector too. In general, ââ¬Å"dual structureâ⬠of the Japanese economy began before the Second World War as seen in a widening of income differential between agricultural and non-agricultural. The widening income differential was due to two main reasons. Firstly, productivity differential widen as productivity in the industrial sector increases faster due to relative ease in technology borrowing than productivity in agriculture. Secondly, the existence of surplus labour in traditional industries has tended to hinder increases in productivity due to limited arable land for agriculture so the farmland area per worker increased very slightly.

What Is the Difference Between Being Educated and Being Trained?
This Monthââ¬â¢s Q&A Technology Tips What is the difference between being educated and being trained? What is so important about education? The difference is huge, and education is hugely important. TRiO is all about setting the foundation to get the best education you can get. Let us look at just a couple of points. One obvious point is that education is the door to opportunity. It is said that success happens at the inter section of education and opportunity. A person who has credentials (i. e. a college degree) is able to seize the moment whenever an opportunity presents itself. This actually allows additional opportunities to flourish. Furthermore, with a degree, all sorts of opportunities somehow become available. The world perceives an educated person as being complete; therefore, he or she is seen as much more likely to be a good employee or partner in any given endeavor. Two: Education informs everything else a person does in life. The quality of the work of an educated per son always gets noticed. That person is thus much more likely to get ahead in all aspects of life and career.Take for example a painter or a poet, two professions normally not thought of as being tied to college degrees. Many people can draw or paint, and many like to express deep thoughts through poetry. Without an education, an artist will not be able to achieve the credibility of any piece proclaiming to represent certain political, or historical, or philosophical truths. Such an artist will likely not achieve much respect or success even if his work shows talent. America is the land of opportunity, but you have to seize that opportunity.TRiO, too, is a program of educational opportunity in education, but you have to embrace the TRiO mission and your dreams. You can be trained at any number of skills like doing hair, and that will earn you a living, but you should want more. Make it your everyday resolution that you will be an educated person no matter what it takes, and then sei ze every opportunity to be that student. The best way to win is to finish what you start. Winners start a project and then keep working until the task is completed, even if the task becomes difficult. They start, they work, they acknowledge mistakes and celebrate small victories, and they finish. When you think about it, getting to the finish line is the only thing that really counts. It is not possible to get anywhere if we consistently allow every obstacle that presents itself to allow us to fail to finish what we start. A half-hearted effort rarely paves the way to the winnerââ¬â¢s circle. When a winner starts a project, he or she sees it through to completion. Hello students! The Beginning of a New Life
In the fall of 2011, I moved to Buffalo, New York and took two years to get here. I do not regret anything. I arrived knowing nothing and speaking English was not the same as when I was twelve when I was studying in Tampa, FL. Some people may think itââ¬â¢s funny that I came here not knowing the woman I was to live with. My mother was happy but scared at the same time that I was going to a city that I did not know and almost alone, without close relatives or even friends. But one that does not risk does not succeed. Many are wondering just what brought me to Buffalo, NY. I left a place with plenty of sunshine, beautiful beaches and lots of fun to a place that winter is. I met my wife on a social networking site. It was crazy, but I prepared my destination. In my country, I was unemployed and the place where I worked gave up my services and I could not find work. I started receiving unemployment benefits. I liked being at home all day. When I met my wife on the social network, we began to write and then we exchanged the phone numbers. After two months I moved to Buffalo to start a new life. She already had a child and I had no children at the moment. I talked to my mother about it and told me that if I felt happy doing that she supported me. In the following days I looked for information of Buffalo and buy a ticket, pack and what needed for the trip. But first I decided to visit my dad in Florida because he had not seen in a long time. So my trip began on October 29, 2011 to Lake City, FL. Lake City is a beautiful place with friendly people and almost everyone knows each other, because it is a small town and there are few places that have entertainment. When I was there first time in the year 2002, there was almost nothing, just some parks, five disco bars, and where all young people share a lot after going to the movies or the clubs â⬠¦ Wal-Mart. On arrival, I was surprised it did not seem much a small town because it had evolved. To my surprise, there were several shopping centers, had many more stores than eleven years ago. The small town was not small, was now a bigger city and productive, with more opportunities to grow personally and economically professionals. But despite the new city that I came by surprise, people still the same, kind, respectful and generous as ever. I spent three weeks with my father who taught me new things that had built. I left fascinated and I said to myself: ââ¬Å"I want to return with my new family but to stay and make a new life here with them, they will achieve it one day. â⬠I felt motivated to move forward in my life and have a major future for me and my family. I wanted to go to that city, but had a new beginning, a new life, a new future ahead you had to structure. I begin my journey to a strange city. I didnââ¬â¢t come by plane; I wanted to travel by bus, so begins the journey to Buffalo, New York. In the driving time I made several stops, but I had my mind occupied with things like the city, everything will be fine, get quick work, I will be happy, and I was increasingly reflective. The trip was about eighteen hours and I could not sleep. When I reached this city, my new love and my stepson received me happily and lovingly, and I was very happy, but at the same time I felt strange and disoriented and did not know anything about this city. It was night when I get to Buffalo, New York. I came to my new home, I took a bath and went to bed and said, ââ¬Å"Tomorrow is my beginning of a new life. â⬠The next day when I woke up, I felt strange, but I could not get for later, this was my first, so I decided to do it. So I got dressed and started to explore the city. It was cold; in a few days would be Thanksgiving Day. I was committed to finding jobs, but it was hard, because my English is not the same as before, but I donââ¬â¢t give up. After several attempts and several weeks ago I received a call from an employment agency. I started at a famer market Jose Disaderio, but in few weeks they laid me off, and employment agencies know. But I'm not discouraged at all. I spent Christmas and New Years with family. After several days my girlfriend gave me the news that I was father for the first time in my life. I was on clouds, like a dream that I wake.

Botanical gardens Essay Example for Free
Botanical gardens Essay Last summer, my two friends rekindled an idea we had for a long time of going for a short excursion to a nearby lake where we would camp for three days. First we informed our parents of our intentions which they supported without any objection. We intended to use this opportunity to help in bonding our relationship even more. After this approval, we did a good budget of all the things that we required for the three days of our camping. After drawing the budget, we sourced for the required money most of which came from our pocket savings with a little help from our parents. We chose to set our camping dates within a weekend as these are the days when most of us had free time. After an informative consultation, we also found out that the camp is only open during the weekends so as to give the camping ground vegetation enough time to regenerate. When the day came, we all set off during the morning so that we could get to our destination in time. This also gave us an opportunity to select the best site to set our camps before other people could take up the available sites. After setting our tents, we embarked on a trip along the shores of the lake and the adjacent flower and botanical gardens. We spent the second day canoeing and swimming as well as participating in some of conservational activities that are a mandatory practice for every camper. By the dawn of the third day, we could not believe that the day had come for us to pack our belongings and head back home. The camping experience proved to be a worthy exercise by providing a refreshing moment in our life. Botanical gardens. (2016, Nov 05).

Ernest Rutherford Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Ernest Rutherford - Assignment Example Eventually, he came up with the term half-life as the time it takes for the radioactive materials to disintegrate. Earnestââ¬Ës contribution in nuclear physics has contributed to a great deal in the area of modern physics and chemistry (Weisstein 1). The concept of radioactivity, especially the alpha, beta, and gamma rays is the basis of understanding how solar radiation reaches the earth and the overall effect on atmospheric temperature. Earnest found that gamma rays were of high frequencies and if they reached the earths surface, the temperatures could be high and unbearable for the inhabitants. On the other hand, the discovery of the nucleus of individual elements is the basis for the modern nuclear energy (Mahanti 1). The concept is useful in providing alternatively cleaner sources of energy. According to CENTER FOR HISTORY OF PHYSICS AT AIP, Ernests experiments have a significant effect on my understanding of how X-rays work. X-rays, as one of the elements of the electromagnetic spectrum, is useful for me to an individual for diagnosis of bone fractures and checking on my internal organs. On the other hand, sunââ¬â¢s irradiation on the earth is an issue affecting every person. The intensity of global warming and climate change requires good knowledge of how the sun irradiates the earths surface. Discovery of nuclear physics is also the basis of modern energy thus useful in my understanding of providing alternatives to non-renewable sources of energy (Henley, Ernest, and Stephen 23). Administrative Perspective Matrix (Evolution of Management Class) Essay
Administrative Perspective Matrix (Evolution of Management Class) - Essay Example 2. According to Sridhar (2010), the administration of an organization under the consideration of administrative perspective does not restrict management of the organization within the organization but on a large-scale stage. Therefore, the second characteristic of administrative perspective is to consider the development of the organization not on a micro level but on a macro level. 3. Administrative perspective and scientific management are quite contrasting from one another because of their location in the hierarchy. Administrative perspective is the approach that is set upside down due to which, it is categorized as top-down while scientific management develops from downside up due to which, it is considered bottom-up approach. Henry Fayol and Chester Bernard can be considered as major theorists who contributed in determining administrative perspective. They can be regarded as authoritative figures because of their most important involvement in structuring theories for administrative perspective. 1. Henry Fayol showed interest in running the organization as one unit due to which, he structured miscellaneous groups with partitioned organizational functionalities. According to the theorist, the handling of organization as one unit with dissimilar groups is manageable and convenient. The theory by Henry Fayol is based on division of organizational functions. 2. Chester Bernard emphasized on development of organizational objectives because it is only because of the organizational objectives due to which, the organization prospers. The administration of an organization should be able to make certain that all the set goals of the organization must be accomplished. The theory of Chester Bernard is based on accomplishment of organizational goals. The relevance of administrative perspective to todayââ¬â¢s managers cannot be negated as it enables todayââ¬â¢s managers to give
